After Tiller

Sundance Institute | Candescent Award

After Tiller was a Candescent Award winner at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. The Candescent Award was created by Lilly Hartley in partnership with the Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program (DFP) and is awarded to powerful social issue films that have been supported during production by the DFP and that premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. Candescent is a supporter of the Sundance Institute and believes in the exceptional mentors, filmmakers and leaders that create a sense of community through the Sundance Institute DFP.

After Tiller paints a complex, compassionate portrait of the only four American doctors left since Dr. George Tiller’s assassination in Kansas in May 2009 who provide third-trimester abortions. These physicians – Dr. LeRoy Carhart, Dr. Warren Hern, Dr. Susan Robinson and Dr. Shelley Sella have become the new number-one targets of the anti-abortion movement, yet continue to risk their lives every day to help their patients.

It’s hard to imagine a better time for this film to be seen, or a better film to see at this moment.
