In the past few months, Generation Wealth, directed by Lauren Greenfield (Queen of Versailles), premiered at Sundance Film Festival, followed by the European premiere at Berlinale in Berlin, Human Rights Film Festival in New York and SXSW in Austin, TX. Next up, the film is heading to CPH:DOX in Copenhagen. Generation Wealth explores the materialistic and image-obsessed culture in America, and Variety reported Lauren Greenfield "makes a compelling argument for a society on the brink of precipitous decline, choosing to interpret the runaway vanity and rampant materialism observed in her own work as harbingers of our imminent destruction..."
If you still want to get a first-look at this incredible film, it will also be screening at the Full Frame Documentary Festival, Sarasota Film Festival and the San Francisco Film Festival in April, followed by its theatrical release on July 20th, so stay tuned!
In March, Candescent supported film, The Departure, celebrated a well-deserved nomination for Best Documentary at the Film Independent Spirit Awards. Lana Wilson's film was described as "genuinely spiritual experience. A quietly galvanizing portrait of life, death and the thin places in between. A film that explores life’s toughest and most transcendent moments with tenderness, honesty and care." by The Washington Post.
Additionally, ICARUS, a Netflix documentary directed by Brian Fogel about doping in sports, won the 2018 Academy Award for best documentary. This summer, ICARUS was also the winner of the Audience Award (sponsored by Candescent) at The Hamptons International Film Festival SummerDocs competition. We love to see social impact documentaries being honored in this category, and can’t wait to see the fantastic, thought-provoking films SummerDocs 2018 will bring!
